About Travis Shive

Travis Shive is a Chicago based artist who is the son of an art teacher and started painting as a teenager. His paintings are created using powdered brass, bronze and copper - all chemically aged to create depth and color, then manipulated with paint and glaze and built up in multiple layers. The crowned figures evoke mythical entities floating between their reality and a spiritual journey to another realm. Paintings are an extension from a sculpture series with construction anchored in found and organic objects. Leveraging his lifetime experience in antique and historical clothing, furniture and artifacts, Travis seeks to pull forward the emotions attached to the combinations of found objects from the past to the current moment.
